ROSARIO FERRÉ
VICE PRESIDENT PONCE ART MUSEUM

The work of Heriberto Nieves that we present at the Museo de Arte de Ponce is universally recognized: it has been exhibited in prestigious museums and galleries in Mexico, Venezuela, France, and Finland. And it is that it is a truly impressive work, which combines metal sculpture with tar, photography, Plesiglas, enamels - a surprising variety of media. How to make a powerful composition out of all of them, and at the same time beautiful?

It would seem impossible, and yet Heriberto Nieves achieves it in a unique way.

Heriberto's vision is protean, he provides us with a new nature. When we situate ourselves in front of it, we feel the challenge of the artist who faces the universe and imposes its will on it. In each work we feel the energy that sprouts and is unleashed in a new way. The physical intellectual liberation is combined in pendulums, revolving spheres, elaborations, giant metal snails like those of The whole of humanity.

Concern for planetary salvation replaces concern for individual salvation. We are not here facing a romantic who seeks personal salvation, but rather a being who thinks in collective terms. Heriberto Nieves interprets and expresses in his work the need for nature, which is increasingly threatened on the island, to be saved. It depends on the island that the moon, the planets, all of life, be saved. Otherwise, we would all perish together.

We thank Heriberto Nieves for exposing his wonderful work with us.
